Anna Pietraszko is an educator, arts executive, double-bassist, and music activist who is guided by the belief in the power of music education – not only as a reward in itself, but as powerful aid to learning in all subject matters and as a tool for strengthening community bonds and social engagement. Pietraszko serves on the Board of Directors of the National Alliance of El Sistema Inspired Programs and is a member of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators.
As a music educator, Anna has taught piano, double bass, general music education, ear training, choir and music theory to children in Miami-Dade County, in her native Poland, as well as in some of Los Angeles’ roughest neighborhoods.
Anna Pietraszko was appointed Managing Director of the Miami Music Project (MMP) in January 2010 and became the Executive Director in January 2011 demonstrating exceptional energy, dedication, talent, and organizational ability. Her experience in different environments and strong pedagogical background is an asset in fulfilling Miami Music Project’s mission of using music as an instrument for social transformation. Anna has been responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission, long-range strategy and financial objectives. She provides leadership in program development and organizational and financial planning with the Board of Trustees and staff. Having expertise in early childhood music education and its divers methodologies, Anna also contributes to the program’s curriculum development.
Additionally, Anna is the co-founder and chief financial officer of the annual Zywiec Trombone Festival, a lively event that gathers musicians renowned performers, composers and educators of all ages and levels of advancement to learn and perform for audiences in a remote, mountainous region of her native Poland. The festival, which will celebrate its eighth edition in the summer of 2013, features multiple performances, seminars, master classes, and private instruction to over 120 trombone and tuba players, free of charge.
As a double-bassist, Pietraszko has performed with, among several other orchestras, the Florida Grand Opera, the Miami Pops Orchestra, the West Coast Symphony, American Youth Symphony, Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra, the University of Southern California Thornton Symphony, International Youth Symphony in Germany, the New Music Orchestra and AUKSO Chamber Orchestra in Poland.
Anna Pietraszko earned her Masters in Artistic Education in the Range of Musical Art, Specializing in General Music Education from the Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, and a Graduate Certificate Degree in Double Bass Performance from the University of Southern California, receiving full scholarships from both.
Most recently, Pietraszko was awarded a grant offered by the Miami Foundation’s Miami Leaders program, which is designed to grow the leadership skills and administrative competencies of Miami-Dade County’s nonprofit leaders, and attended the Developing Leaders Program at the Columbia Business School.
Anna resides in Miami with her husband, Maciej, an award-winning trombonist.
